Surfactant Listing Requirements
Third-Party Review

Full information on the formulation of your product - i.e., all CAS numbers for chemicals in your surfactant product (anything intentionally added or present at > 0.1%) - must be submitted to a third-party reviewer (currently NSF International) under confidentiality for assessment and validation. Ingredients may be displayed in CleanGredients® with an alias or product name to protect confidentiality.

You may also submit any internal test data in support of third-party validation of biodegradability and acute aquatic toxicity values under confidentiality. Acute aquatic toxicity values for at least one endpoint (fish, daphnia, or algae) are required. For evaluation against the DfE Screen, additional endpoints are required. U.S. EPA-modeled data may serve as one endpoint.

Ingredient Biodegradability

As a condition for listing in CleanGredients®, all surfactant ingredients and components (i.e., preparations) must be ultimately biodegradable (i.e., pass the threshold level of 60% mineralization in the prescribed test in 28 days) without degradation products of concern.

Reporting Format

Whenever feasible, use the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
