Risk Assessment in Surfactants
Definition
Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the risk posed to human health or the environment by the actual or potential presence or use of specific pollutants.
Rationale
Risk assessments consider the potential impact of a chemical based both its inherent hazard (e.g. toxicity) and its potential for exposure (i.e., exposure routes and target populations). Inherently hazardous materials may be used safely when exposure is controlled.
Listing Requirements
Optional and environmentally relevant.
